Update to Depths

I've put out an update to Depths. Here's the major additions:

  • New mechanics

There are a couple new types of monsters, and you can use glowsticks you can find around the map to mark where you've been. I also added the ability to look further towards the camera, and there's a new Endless mode for just seeing how far down you can get.

  • New areas

Now it's not just the same tiled floor over and over. Each different area has its own unique room layouts. There are three different areas now which you must explore in normal mode, and a secret fourth one that's exclusive to Endless mode.

  • Cutscenes

You can finally find "what you're looking for!" There is now an intro cutscene when you start the game on Normal, and a proper ending for if you clear the final area.

  • More Visual Effects

There's now a screen-tearing effect utilized by the new enemies, and the game has a custom cursor. Also, certain objects in the game like tables and chairs (another new addition!) can cast half-shadows.

Aside from the visual, I made a lot of new sound effects and ambiences as well.

  • And tons of bug fixes

This included an improvement to the pathfinding, as well as to the room generation: I accidentally left a debug statement in the original jam version forcing it to only ever spawn just one of the seven rooms it had to choose from. Whoops...

There's undoubtedly a few bugs still in there, creeping around the corners, but I squashed as many as I could!
